Dr. Sotirios Theofanis is an internationally acknowledged expert and manager, with extensive experience in administrative, high level managerial, consulting, and academic activities in the fields of port planning, management and operations, as well as in freight, intermodal and maritime transport and logistics. 

Dr. Theofanis is Professor of Practice and Programme Lead, MSc in Shipping, Port Management and Logistics, CITY College, University of York Europe Campus, Thessaloniki, Greece & Senior Research Fellow, South East European Research Center (SEERC).  He is Non - Resident Affiliated Faculty  at the Centre for Advanced Infrastructure & Transportation (CAIT), Rutgers University, NJ, USA. He is, finally, Managing Partner, MARLOGMIND PC, a Company specialized in Port & Maritime Logistics.  Moreover, he serves as Scientific Advisor for Ports, Shipping & Freight Logistics to the Piraeus Chamber of Commerce & Industry (PCCI), Greece.

Dr. Theofanis served until June 30, 2020, as Chairman of the BoD and Managing Director of ThPA SA, Port of Thessaloniki, Greece (first immediate management after majority privatization of ThPA SA, the comprehensive Port Operator of the Port of Thessaloniki), where he led the overall restructuring process during the period 2018 - 2020. He is former President of EXANTAS National Port Training Institute in Greece (2018 - 2020). Ex-Member of the BoD of South Europe Gateway Thessaloniki (SEGT), the Holding Company of the Majority Stake of ThPA SA. He was also the Coordinator of the Consortium (DIEP – Terminal Link – Belterra) that won the Divestiture Tender of the Majority Stake of ThPA SA (2013 – 2017).  He has been in the past Expert, Head of Planning Unit, and Acting Director for Ports in the Ministry of Merchant Marine, Greece (1986 -1999); Managing Director of ThPA SA (1999 – 2002); and Chairman of the BoD and Managing Director of Piraeus Port Authority SA (2002 – 2004). As Director for Ports in the Ministry of Merchant Marine, Greece, he led the efforts for corporatization of the previously public Port Authorities (1997 – 1999), along with all National Port Planning Strategies.  During his term in the Port of Thessaloniki (2001) and the Port of Piraeus (2003), he led the efforts for the successful Listing of the two Port Entities in the Athens Stock Exchange (ASA) and the subsequent restructuring of the Stock Listed Port Companies.  He was also Director for Strategic Planning, CAIT, Rutgers University, NJ, USA and Co- Director of the Freight and Maritime Program (FMP) (2005 -2012) at CAIT.

He is Author and co-author of over one hundred twenty scientific journal articles, with a high degree of citations and he serves on various scientific committees. He is Visiting Professor / Scholar in many Academic Institutions worldwide.

In April 2019, he has been selected as Port Professional of the month in Europe, by the European Seaports Organisation (ESPO). In March 2022, he was accorded the title of Honorary Professor of the University of York Management School.
