Following a rigorous process of accreditation and audit, we are proud to announce that the University of York has been officially granted a licence to establish the University of York Europe Campus, CITY U.L.E. - a non-state, not-for-profit university based in Thessaloniki, with additional premises in Athens. This development comes in accordance with Law 5094/2024, recently passed by the Greek Ministry of Education, which allows foreign universities to apply for the establishment of a new legal entity in Greece, known as a University Legal Entity (U.L.E.).
The non-state, not-for-profit university will comprise three academic Schools — the School of Business, the School of Science, and the School of Law and Humanities — and will offer programmes in Business Studies, Computer Science, Psychology, Communication, English Language, and Law. All Bachelor’s programmes will be delivered at the Thessaloniki Campus, while Computer Science Bachelor’s programmes will be offered at both the Thessaloniki and Athens campuses.
The University of York Europe Campus, CITY U.L.E., will commence academic operations in October 2025, offering 4-year Bachelor’s degrees as is the norm in the Greek higher education system. Bachelor's programmes are expected to commence in the 2025-26 academic year, while Master’s programmes and PhD studies are expected to begin in the 2026–27 academic year, subject to further accreditation by the Greek Ministry of Education.
At the same time, CITY College, University of York Europe Campus, will continue to deliver its established 3-year Bachelor’s degrees and Master’s degrees, leading to University of York degrees, in Thessaloniki and across its satellite locations in Southeast and Eastern Europe and the Caucasus region.
Graduates of both institutions are recognised as University of York Europe Campus alumni, enjoying equal rights and privileges as members of the wider University of York global alumni community.
This milestone marks the beginning of a new era - one that brings expanded academic offerings, new opportunities for students and staff, and a deepened commitment to world-class education, research, and societal impact.
Undergraduate programme accreditations granted by the Hellenic Authority for Higher Education (HEHA).
* Masters programmes in Thessaloniki as well as all programmes in Athens are expected to commence in October 2026
